LANSING, Mich. — New legislation is being introduced in Lansing aimed at protecting people who prefer using cash over credit cards.

A senator from Detroit wants to make sure Michigan businesses don't discriminate against people who don't have bank accounts, which means no credit or debit cards.

The bill would force businesses to accept cash from customers and not go credit only.

One study estimates 21-million people are not members of a bank or credit union.

The senate Regulatory Reform Committee is reviewing the legislation.
