Four developments totaling more than $2 billion in new investment are planned for downtown Detroit.
Bedrock real estate says Wednesday that the projects could bring 15,000 construction jobs and up to 9,000 permanent jobs to Detroit.
Plans were unveiled Wednesday and include a $900 million redevelopment of the former J.L. Hudson Co. department store site into residential units, retail and office space. An $830 million project would feature a 35-story office tower in the Monroe block.
Bedrock says it will finance most of the projected costs.
Bedrock founder Dan Gilbert says such developments would allow Detroit to compete for other major projects like one recently announced by online retailer Amazon. Seattle-based Amazon says it is looking for a second headquarters and will spend more than $5 billion on it.
