Attorney General Bill Schuette issued a warning to gas stations Wednesday that his office will be looking for any evidence of price gouging.
Gas prices are already rising because of the impact of Tropical Storm Harvey on the oil and gas industry along the Gulf coast.
The impending holiday weekend will also raise prices. The Attorney General acknowledges there will be a spike but he's telling gas station owners not to take advantage of the situation.
The Attorney General's Consumer Protection Division monitors the wholesale price of gas, the price at the pump and gas station profit margins daily to help with any gouging investigations.
Customers who see a station charging way more than the going rate for gas or who have evidence of collusion should call the Consumer Protection Division at 1-877-765-8388 or click hereto fill out a complaint online.
