Assistant principal retires during Facebook investigation

A middle school assistant principal has stepped down amid concerns over his Facebook statuses.

We have been investigating the story since last Thursday.

That's when a Chippewa Middle School parent sent us an e-mail containing more than 20-pages of Bob Bullock's posts.

The parent also emailed the district, prompting an investigation. In the middle of it, the assistant principal retired.

"Very shocking, very shocking, and I'm still shocked. I'm... Flabbergasted," said a parent of a Chippewa Middle School child. (The parent wished to remain anonymous).

As were several parents at Chippewa Middle School when they found out about former Assistant Principal Bob Bullock's Facebook posts. One of them said:

‘A racist issue.. What planet are you from? Because he called him a... I get it (sarcasm) it's ok when it's the g-a but not the g-e-r?’

Or when Eaton County Sheriff deputies got body cams, Bob's post read:

‘Perps and pimps like rev al should be careful what they wish for, because i think they will get much more than they asked for!’

"I think people that are educating our children should not be demonstrating such ignorance and downright racism," Patrick Diehl, a parent of a Chippewa student said.

"I never would've thought in a million years that he had those types of ill feelings," said the anonymous parent.

Most parents we have talked to feel the same way. They told us the 55-year-old was a pillar in the community.

"I thought he was a great guy," the anonymous parent said.

That's why very few parents were comfortable being in front of the camera. Some of them didn't even believe that this was really Bob because he was such a nice guy. We wanted his side of the story. FOX 47's Scott Wolchek called him on different numbers, even knocked on his door.

But we've never heard back.

In the meantime, we've been speaking with the superintendent of Okemos Public Schools as the investigation into the posts has played out.

She sent a statement reading:

“The comments were his personal thoughts and were certainly not representative of the values and beliefs of Okemos Public Schools, the board of education, or our school community. Prior to completing the investigation, Mr. Bullock communicated his intent to retire. On behalf of the district i accept his resignation slash retirement” –Dr. Catherine Ash.

"Obviously that's kind of an admission of guilt isn't it?” Diehl said. “I mean if he didn't think that he did anything wrong, I wouldn't expect him to step down so abruptly."

The superintendent did not say if he retired because of the investigation.

We'll continue to reach out to Bullock for his side of the story. If he responds, we'll let you know.
