LANSING, Mich. — National Endowment for the Arts Acting Chairman Mary Anne Carter has approved more than $80 million in grants as part of the Arts Endowment’s second major funding announcement for fiscal year 2019. Included in this announcement is an Art Works grant of $20,000 to the Arts Council of Greater Lansing for the 2019 Creative Placemaking Summit. Art Works is the Arts Endowment’s principal grantmaking program. The agency received 1,592 Art Works applications for this round of grantmaking and will award 977 grants in this category.

“These awards, reaching every corner of the United States, are a testament to the artistic richness and diversity in our country,” said Mary Anne Carter, acting chairman of the National Endowment for the Arts. “Organizations such as the Arts Council of Greater Lansing are giving people in their community the opportunity to learn, create and be inspired.”

“We are so honored to be among those chosen to receive an Art Works grant from the National Endowment for the Arts,” said Arts Council executive director, Deborah E. Mikula. “These dollars will go a long way in supporting our fifth annual Creative Placemaking Summit, which has been integral to our economic and creative growth in the tri-counties,” Mikula said. “A lot of time, hard work and passion goes into the application process for this grant, so it is very exciting to see the fruits of our efforts acknowledged by the NEA. We are extremely grateful for their recognition of our work.”

The annual Creative Placemaking Summit 5 will take place this year on Thursday, Sept. 26, 2019, at the Lansing Center in Lansing, Mich. The full-day event will bring together 400 community members and guests to learn and exchange ideas with top creative placemaking influencers from across the nation, as well as local artists and creatives, in an effort to continue our growth as a region that seeks to put creativity first.
