LANSING, Mich. — Lansing Art Gallery & Education Center Announces our first online high school exhibition! Due to the “Stay at Home” order we’ve curated the annual Art Scholarship Alert Exhibition online.
Art Scholarship Alert, celebrating 35 years of art excellence, is a juried art exhibition and scholarship competition for grades 9 through 12 in 9 counties: Ingham, Clinton, Eaton, Ionia, Shiawassee, Barry, Livingston, Calhoun and Jackson. The program is designed to give recognition and financial assistance for outstanding art students, to encourage artistic growth and to provide students with an opportunity to participate as artists in a professional setting. Students are required to submit a portfolio of works of art to be juried by a team of professional artists and educators.
Young artists learn commitment to a goal and gain self-confidence as they aspire to artistic excellence. Their successes establish them as significant role models for younger students. Since 1984, Art Scholarship Alert has awarded over $117,650 to young artists to help further their creative endeavors. In addition to the portfolio competition, students at the senior level may apply for the annual $1,000 Sara Jane Venable Scholarship. Sara Jane Venable Scholarship is awarded to a student in his/her pursuit of higher education in the visual arts and used for tuition assistance. The 2020 recipient is Arabella B, from Okemos High School.
