LANSING, Mich. — People who live at an apartment in Lansing's Reo Town came home Tuesday to notices saying they need to vacate the building within the next month.
The notice came from from the city saying the Washington Apartments do not have a valid certificate of compliance.
According to city code, no one can live in the apartment if it doesn't have a certificate of compliance.
Residents in the building say they are not surprised by the notice.
We just talked to a resident that lived in our exact unit, he's down the hall now. He's a veteran, he's had issues for months. He said there were bat feces leaking from the ceiling and there was a lot of water damage. And, in the ceiling we can see there was water damage, but we just assumed it was a fixed problem.
Residents also say management has changed several times in the last few months.
Besides the eviction notice, another sheet of paper is on the front door from the current management company saying it's working to fix the code compliance certification.
Fox 47 has reached out to the management office for comment, but has not heard back yet.
