TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. — Another case of measles has been confirmed in the state of Michigan--this one coming from Traverse City.
Health officials in Grand Traverse County say an un-vaccinated person recently returned home after contracting the disease in Ukraine.
Officials say the man may have exposed people in just a handful of locations including Walmart in Traverse City and a couple of doctors offices.
There is no known exposure at the national cherry festival.
This is the 45th confirmed case in Michigan this year, and it's the third case involving international travel.
Measles is highly contagious and spread through the air.
Specific symptoms include tiny white spots on the inner cheeks, gums and roof of the mouth as well as red, raised and blotchy rash.
Nationwide, the Centers for Disease Control reports that 1,109 cases of measles across 28 states in all regions of the country.
New cases have slowed in recent months, but this is still the greatest number of cases reported in the U.S. since 1992.
Measles was declared eliminated in this country in 2000.
