LANSING, Mich. — It was a race to remember on Sunday at the Hawk Island County Park.

Teams of 20 paddled in unison to the beat of an ancient drum in traditional Chinese dragon boats.

Sunday's annual Capital City Dragon Boat Race was benefiting the Women's Center of Greater Lansing.

It even featured a carnation ceremony to remember those lost to cancer and domestic violence, as well as to honor survivors.

"There's so many bad things happening in our world and like breast cancer and domestic violence are terrible things to begin with, but to like celebrate those who have survived and have gotten through those difficult positions is like really important and I'm glad that we do it like this is a very fun way," said Melina Brann, Executive Director of The Women's Center of Greater Lansing.

This is an annual fundraiser for the women's center that provides daily resources and support for women of all backgrounds within the greater Lansing area.
