LANSING, Mich. — An anarchist group called "Punks with Lunch" is going up against the city of Lansing.
The group, which helps the homeless and others who are less fortunate, is trying to keep picnic tables at Ruetter Park in downtown Lansing.
"Punks with Lunch" put picnic tables in the park after saying the city did not put out their own. The group even chained the tables to the trees.
Mayor Andy Schor said the group did not get permission to put the tables in the park and they may lead to crime.
"Looking at the illegal activity that's going on and seeing if there is a linkage towards having an essence of picnic tables that, where people are congregating around and if that is part of the symptom of increased illegal activity so that other homeless people, or residents, or visitors can't use that park, then we'll move them or remove them," Schor said.
"Punks with Lunch" sent a letter to the city official about the future of the park. Mayor Schor said that meeting has been scheduled for early October.
The group meets every other Saturday at Ruetter Park to give clothing and bus tokens to homeless and low income residents in Lansing.
