LANSING, Mich. — "Going PRO," an effort in Michigan to promote jobs in the trades was launched on Monday in Lansing.

Lt. Gov. Gilchrist II kicked off the campaign with the help of local leaders from the workplace, area businesses, and educators.

The event took place Monday afternoon at Lansing Community College.

The campaign is focusing on helping Michigan employers fill about 545,000 jobs through the year 2026.

The jobs will be in the fields of construction, manufacturing, healthcare, automotive, information technology, and other high-skilled trades.

The Talent and Economic Development Department of Michigan is organizing the campaign.

The Talent and Economic Development Department says that "research shows only 1 in 3 Michigan parents encourage their kids to enter professional trades, and approximately half of Michigan's high school students, young adults and parents lack knowledge about the value and benefits that apprenticeships offer in trades, with only 13% of high school students consider apprenticeships a good career path option."

"Going PRO is designed to inform and inspire more prospective Professional Trades candidates than ever before in every region of the state that multiple pathways exist to achieve career success."

The launch included a Going PRO commercial that we'll be seeing on TV soon.

Also, watch for more events and activities across Michigan in the coming weeks to continue the Going PRO kick off.
