“Making homes safer, while helping families understand the potential dangers of a home fire, is an important part of what we do in communities across the state,” said Mary Lynn Foster, Chief Executive Officer for the American Red Cross of Michigan. “Our Home Fire Campaign is saving Michigan lives and is already making a difference in Jackson County.”

What is the Home Fire Campaign? In an unprecedented, nationwide effort to combine new technology and innovation with old-fashioned neighbor-to-neighbor outreach, the Red Cross is saving lives, reducing injuries and senseless fatalities. With a goal to reduce the number of fire deaths and injuries in the United States by 25%, these efforts are making a difference and making homes safer. As of July 2019, Red Cross smoke alarm installations are credited with helping to save at least 610 lives nationwide and Campaign volunteers have installed nearly two million alarms.

“Three out of every five home fire deaths happen in homes that don’t have working smoke alarms,” said Gail McGovern, President and CEO of the American Red Cross. “Please help lower these tragic statistics by joining us in this lifesaving effort against home fires. Smoke alarms save lives, so we’ve made it our goal to install alarms in homes that need them most.”
