Pregnant women, screened for mental illness

Maternal mental illness may be more common than previously thought, recent studies have found.

The United States Preventative Services Task Force says that's why all pregnant women should be checked for mental illness during pregnancy and after giving birth.

More women are experiencing mood disorders, like depression and anxiety, even before giving birth, evidence that postpartum depression may actually start during pregnancy.

We are speaking with doctors about why the new recommendation could be good for women and their children.
