Alcohol, drugs factors in crash on I-96 in Ionia

Eastbound I-96 in Ionia County was closed down for two hours following a head on crash.

It happened at 8:42 a.m. Sunday on Eastbound I-96 near Jordan Lake Road.

A 16-year-old male from Hastings was driving a 2000 Chrysler convertible westbound in eastbound lanes when he collided with a 2008 Pontiac driven by a 24-year-old female from Monroe.

Two drivers and a passenger from Pontiac received non-life threatening injuries.

Both vehicles received major damage.

Alcohol and drug use are believed to a factor in the crash.

Deputies are awaiting toxicology reports before sending the case to the Ionia County Prosecutors office for review.

Michigan State Police, Berlin/Orange Dire Department, and the Saranac Fire Department responded to the scene.

The Ionia County Sheriff's Department continues to investigate the crash.
