State officials have given the okay for Enbridge to install anchor supports along two pipelines that run beneath the Straits of Mackinac.
The State Department of Environmental Equality issued a permit allowing the supports for Line Five.
The pipeline carries 23-million gallons of oil and liquid natural gas between Wisconsin and Ontario a day.
Environmentalist groups want the 65-year-old pipelines shutdown and say the extra supports will not make it any safer.
