JACKSON, Mich. (WSYM) - What's normally just a dead end at the end of Oakhill street, became the perfect fighting arena.
"Its not something we see everyday, but it's something we see too often."
John tells me social media could be to blame. It opens up a new avenue for them, exposing them to things they've never seen before.
"Kids constantly with their cameras and they are taping these things, and it gets out rather quick."
"But now I think there is a greater danger, with the access to internet, access to information than it was before."
Karen Clark lives a few house down, from where the fight happened.
And she hopes to see a safe place where kids can place that energy, instead of on each other.
"More facilities in Jackson to promote a healthier environment for our teenagers."
Because without them...
"You never really know, it could turn really really quick from a fight to someone being in criminal court or prison."
At the Martin Luther King Community Center, they try to keep kids from ending up behind bars.
"We provide meals, alternatives, tutoring, weight training, sports, whether it's just arts and crafts, or playing music in the recording studio, there is different things that young people wanna do and we just wanna provide them with other alternatives so they're not just sitting at home."
John also sees the need for better communication between kids and parents, and kids and teachers. This will help young people realize the seriousness of their actions.
"Continue to build those relationships to show how much you care, outside of just making sure your homework is done, outside of making sure you're in class on time."
Its important for parents to provide a positive outlet to what is going on in the streets.
