Troopers attempted to make contact with a man walking along US-127 in Jackson County Wednesday, and when they approached him he fled into a wooded area dropping a backpack.
The backpack, according to the Michigan State Police, contained more than a pound of marijuana packaged and ready for sale.
The suspect, a 42-year-old man from Adrian, was located after a short foot pursuit and the MSP Jackson Post K9 Unit was utilized.
After further investigation, it was uncovered the man was wanted on a parole violation for unlawfully driving away an automobile out of South Carolina, the MSP reports.
The Adrian man was lodged in the Jackson County Jail for possession with intent to deliver marijuana and resisting and obstructing arrest, pending his extradition back to South Carolina.
Troopers were assisted by the Columbia Township Police Department and the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department on scene.
