An update on the deadly crash that closed parts of I-496 for several hours on Tuesday.

A man is killed in an accident along I-496 in Lansing Township Tuesday afternoon. Lansing Township Police Chief Kay Hoffman says a 66-year-old man form the Kalamazoo area was killed. She says he was driving eastbound on I-496 and crossed the median striking another vehicle head-on.
There is no word yet on whether any other people were injured in the accident.
The accident happened shortly after 1 p.m. in a stretch of I-496 near Waverly Road. Both westbound lanes of I-496 in that area remain closed as of 4 p.m. One eastbound lane had been closed for a time, but has since re-opened.

UPDATE: The eastbound lanes of I-496 reopened Tuesday afternoon one was closed for several hours due to a serious car accident. Both westbound lanes near Waverly Road remain closed.
A car and a mini-van collided in the westbound lanes shortly after 1 p.m.
Lansing Township police are asking motorists to avoid the area until the wreckage is cleared and all lanes are reopened.
