A man who allegedly burned his girlfriend’s house down after an argument has been charged.
Jeffery Lee Gibbs, 48, faces a charge of second degree arson. According to the Jackson County Prosecutor’s Office, this charge carries a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison.
The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office said earlier that deputies were called to a residence in the 9000 block of Moscow Road in Hanover Township around 6:40 p.m. Wednesday. Allegedly the man got into a fight with his girlfriend, who was the only resident of the house, and threatened to burn her house down.
After the argument, Gibbs then allegedly poured gasoline on the house and lit it on fire. The sheriff’s office said that the structure appeared to be a complete loss.
The girlfriend was able to escape the house without injury, the office said.
