LANSING, Mich. (WSYM)-- The Sparrow Urgent Care in East Lansing has been full of flu patients since late January. That's why Dr. Teresa Kordish says it's not too late to get vaccinated -- especially children and older adults.
"It actually seems to be more deadly in the younger aged children and the older aged adults do to immune compromising conditions,"Kordish said.
Children have a harder time fighting the flu because their immune systems aren't completely developed. The state just confirmed its first pediatric flu deaths of the season on Friday.
"It's a really somber reminder that the flu can be really serious. So it's important that parents know that there is still time to get the flu vaccine especially in a year like this year when the vaccine is a very good match to the viruses that are circulating the community," Jennifer Eisner with the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services said.
Now that we are getting into spring, they're hoping with a lot of sanitation, the spreading will slow down.
