JACKSON, Mich. (WSYM) -- Pastor Patti Kenney said St. John's United Church of Christ is big on community involvement. With the opioid epidemic ripping through Jackson, this is one more thing the church wants to help with.

"There are 3 drug overdoses everyday in this community," she said.

Pastor Patti said St. John's United Church of Christ is committed to bringing those numbers down.

The church is working with Jackson Area Recovery to bring in doctors to teach people how to administer the drug when someone is overdosing. As the number of overdoses keep growing, Shelly Kosmet said it's important to be educated on the safety of the drug-- calling it a life saver.

"We've actually have quite a few participants that have been saved by Naloxone so I think it's a really important program to have to offer here in our community," she said.

Kosmet said she's seeing more people willing to provide this kind of education, and hopes more community groups will follow.
