A familiar scene for local Medical Examiner

Almost one week after its initial landfall Harvey continues to devastate Texas and prompt new concerns.

Floodwaters have started to recede in many areas. But searches, rescues, and unexpected after-effects mean the emergency is far from over. The death toll has risen tonight to at least 39.

As that number rises emergency response teams will be working with families to identify the bodies.

Medical examiners from around the country will be called in to help -- and one from mid-Michigan may be on the list.

FOX 47's Alani Letang sat down with doctor Joyce Dejong-Monroe to talk about her experience dealing with disasters like the one in Texas.

The job of identifying the dead in Texas is only going to get bigger.

Harris county, where Houston is located says its morgue is almost at capacity.

It's asking for a refrigerated truck to store bodies in until they can be buried or cremated.
