A fire broke out at an apartment complex in Delta Township, trapping some residents on their balconies where they had to be rescued.

The massive fire at the Waverly Gardens Apartment complex damaged the second and third floors of the building.

Delta Township's Fire Inspector Michael Roberts tells us even after the fire was put out initially, crews were still on scene putting out hot spots.

Residents who lived in the 22 units in this building are now temporarily placed in hotels provided by the American Red Cross.

Just minutes before midnight, firefighters rushed to Waverly Gardens. The first crews on scene had to rescue five adults and two children from two balconies at the complex.

Crews from five fire departments were dispatched to fight the flames, including the Delta Township, Grand Ledge, Windsor Township, Lansing City, and Lansing Township Fire Departments.

"Our fire crews did a really good job first arriving," says Roberts, "there were two ladders that were set up initially and seven people were rescued."

No one was hurt in this fire at Waverly Gardens. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
