A fire at an apartment complex in Holt is now an arson-murder investigation after a 6-year-old girl is found dead inside. This morning, a person of interest is in custody.
The fire happened last night around 7:15 at the Old Orchard Apartments on Keller Road in Holt. The Delhi Township Fire Chief says the fire started in the bedroom of one of the apartments. Just one person was inside the burning apartment at the time. The fire was contained to just the one unit where the 6-year old victim was found, however smoke spread through the entire building forcing other tenants to be evacuated.
The Ingham County Sheriff's Office along with Delhi Fire and Michigan State Police are all investigating. Authorities have not released any information on the person of interest in custody. An autopsy is expected to be performed on the 6-year old victim today. Authorities say they don't know how she died, if she was deceased before the fire was set, or if she died in the fire. Her family and school has been notified.
An update is expected later today.
