5 Boy Scout Camps in Michigan Will Close

Posted

Two local Boy Scout camps are closing because the organization can't justify the expense of maintaining them anymore.

The Michigan Crossroads Council Boy Scouts of America voted to close Camp Kiwanis in Mason and Camp Teetonkah in Jackson.

They're also closing Camp Greilick near Traverse City, Northwoods in Ogemaw County, and Camp Tapico in Kalkaska County.

The organization says they will use the money they're saving by closing the camps to pay for seven other camps that will remain open.

Camp Kiwanis will revert to the Kiwanis Club of Lansing. Camp Greilick is owned by the Rotary Club in Traverse City.

The camps will be closed by this time next year.
