Michigan Department of Agriculture investigators have removed nearly 40 skimmers from gas stations around the state.
Skimmers steal credit and debit card information when you pay at the pump. There's no way to know if one has been installed without opening them up.
The best ways to protect yourself are to use pumps within sight of the clerk, pay inside, and notify the staff if something doesn't seem right. Monitor your bank and credit card accounts.
