Officials in Washtenaw County say they've recovered the bodies of three trumpeter swans in recent weeks.
The Ann Arbor News reports that a female is left with two babies in a marshy area west of Ann Arbor after an adult male and two young swans died. The bodies of the two young swans were found on a local road where they were apparently run over by a car. Humane Society of Huron Valley spokeswoman Wendy Welch says it remains unclear what killed the adult swan found in a pond.
Last year in the same area an adult and four young swans were killed when police said someone deliberately ran them over.
Trumpeter swans once disappeared in the area but are making a comeback thanks to the Trumpeter Swan Restoration Program.
