JACKSON, Mich. — Election Day is August 6 across Michigan and Jackson voters have a big decision to make as they hit the polls to narrow down the Mayoral Candidate Race.

Currently, there are three candidates on the ballot.

The top two will advance and face off in the November 5 General Election.

MEET THE CANDIDATES:
Mayor Derek Dobies is running for re-election. He's seeking to be the first incumbent to win a mayor's race in Jackson in nearly 15 years.

Current Councilman Jeromy Alexander and newcomer, Cindy Eby, will also be on the ballot.

One major problem facing these candidates is how they will address gun violence in Jackson.

Mayor Dobies said, "It's going to involved some gun violence intervention programming. Some thoughtful ways that we can work to rebuild our infrastructure in different ways that will help curb some of the crime that our communities and neighborhoods face."

And Jeromy Alexander said, "I think it's going to be a little trial and error we have to try anything, see what works. If it works great if not we try something else."

Welcome the families of the chronic offenders and maybe just not just the chronic offenders, but the kids that are starting to skip schools and get in minor trouble, intervening with the families at that stage," said Cindy Eby.

The polls open at 7 a.m. on Tuesday, August 6 and close at 8 p.m.
