A 20-year-old from Lansing that died after going under in Lake Michigan Sunday has been identified as Jeremiah Diaz.
Emergency responders were called to the State Park Pavillion area in Grand Haven just before 4 p.m. on reports of swimmers struggling in the water.
Bystanders were reportedly able to find Diaz in about five feet of water. He was given CPR and taken to the hospital, but was later pronounced dead.
He was one of two people to die on Sunday while swimming at Grand Haven.
The Grand Haven Department of Public Safety said on its Facebook page that a human chain was used to reach the first person who experienced trouble in the "hazardous wave conditions" around noon Sunday. Jeff Hawke, Director of Public Safety, says a 64-year-old man was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Hawke says the man was identified as David Knaffle of Wyoming, Michigan.
Hawke says three other people were hospitalized after being rescued, including a 46-year-old man in serious condition.
