EMMETT TOWNSHIP, Mich. — Dogs that were left outside in a yard during the latest storm and frigid temperatures are a reason for an animal cruelty investigation.
A deputy from Animal Control was called to an address in Emmett Township with minimum shelter, frozen food and water.
The dogs were barking and seemed to be in distress.
There was no success to in contacting the homeowner so a search warrant was executed.
This happened on Jan. 31 around 5:15 in the evening at the 10000 block of I Drive N in Emmett Township.
Animal control ended up taking 17 dogs from the backyard.
They were all taken to the Calhoun County Animal Shelter and evaluated by a local veterinarian.
Charges are being sought against a 65-year-old Emmett Township resident.
He is also suspected of breeding the dogs for fighting.
