Abigail Kopf to leave hospital, headed to rehab

Posted

The 14-year old girl who survived a mass shooting in Kalamazoo is leaving the hospital today. Vickie Kopf posted an update on Facebook that her daughter Abigail would be leaving the hospital today for a rehabilitation facility.

Another update posted to Abigail's gofundme page Monday says: "Abbie is improving every day. Tomorrow she will be sent to a rehab facility."

Abigail has made a miraculous recovery since she was shot in the head on February 20th in the parking lot of a Cracker Barrel Restaurant. Four other women with her were shot to death. A father and his teen son were gunned down at a car dealership. Another woman was shot at an apartment building on that fateful night. She did survive and is also recovering.

When Abigail was shot, Doctors thought she had actually died because her heart had stopped. Her family kept her on life support so her organs could be donated. As preparations were being made, the teen squeezed her mother Vickie's hand, letting her now she was still alive and still fighting.

In the weeks following the shooting Abigail woke up, began breathing on her own, and took steps. Doctors are confident Abigail will make a full recovery with no serious repercussions.

Suspected shooter Jason Dalton has been charged with murder and attempted murder in the shooting rampage. He is currently being held without bond.
