Fourteen cows died in car crashes in Clinton County early Tuesday morning. The Clinton County Sheriff's Office tells us 41 cows escaped from a farm in Ionia County after lightning knocked down a tree that in turn took out a fence.
Fourteen of the cows wandered onto Grange Road in Dallas Township, about halfway between Pewamo and Westphalia.
Sheriff's deputies got the first call about an accident on Grange Road near Taft Road just after 5:30AM.
Two other crashes happened by the time they arrived. Nine of the cows died at the scene. The other 5 had to be put down. One woman refused treatment for minor injuries. No other people were hurt.
