Some Lansing residents are without water after workers damaged a water main on West Mt. Hope Avenue Friday.

The Lansing Board of Water & Light has shut off water to about 13 customers on West Mt. Hope Avenue between Pattengill Avenue and South Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.

The damage happened on the 1200 block of West Mt. Hope Avenue.

Crews are expected to repair the damage by Saturday morning.

BWL General Manager Dick Peffley will be going door to door around 4:30 p.m. to talk with the affected customers and to hand out bottled water.

“We know this is an inconvenience for our customers, but we want to take every precaution to ensure we’re delivering safe water. That’s why we’re going door to door and handing out bottled water to those impacted,” said Peffley. “Customers should know our crews are working as quickly as possible to return full service to everyone.”

When the water main is repaired, any water used by those customers will need to be boiled for three minutes before use or use bottled water until further notice.

This includes water used for drinking, making ice, brushing teeth, washing dishes or preparing food.

The BWL says it will continue to test water quality throughout the weekend and more details on that testing will be shared on Monday.
