CLINTON TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WSYM) - A massive "fatberg" was found in a sewer line at the Clintondale Pump Station in Clinton Township.
A "fatberg" is a combination of fats, oil and grease that collected in the pipe. It's also mixed with items that should not have been flushed, like baby wipes.
Officials say the fatberg was about 100 feet long, 11 feet wide and 6 feet tall.
“To put it simply, this Fatberg is gross. It provides an opportunity, however, to talk with people about the importance of restricting what goes down our sewers. This restriction was caused by people and restaurants pouring grease and similar materials down their drains. We want to change that behavior,” said Public Works Commissioner Candice S. Miller.
Fortunately, crews were able to remove it from the county's sewer system.
