JACKSON, Mich. — A $10 million housing development is being proposed in Downtown Jackson.
City officials say the four-story apartment building will have 53 low-to-moderate income units.
“Over the past several years the city has taken a lot of action to take down a lot of unsafe housing so now is the time to build back up and provide safe housing for people that's affordable,” said Jackson Public Information Officer Aaron Dimick.
“That's really what it's all about and the city is really excited to see this take shape.”
The project will be built on the 300 block of West Michigan Avenue near Blackstone Street.
Business owners in the area told FOX 47 they are looking forward to seeing more people in Downtown Jackson in hopes that it will bring more customers.
“People can be accessible here downtown you know,” said Jessica Bretes from The Dirty Bird, a nearby restaurant.
“Just to have everything down here I love that there's more fun coming in down here and I'm excited for it all.’
Plans for the development are in the initial stages.
It must pass state requirements before breaking ground.
