Officials say a 37-year-old Lansing man is recovering after a crash on his motorcycle Saturday evening on Interstate 96.

The Ingham County Sheriff's Office said it happened just before 7 p.m. as he was headed west on I-96 near the Elm Road exit, east of Lansing.

According to deputies, the man said he lost control of his motorcycle after it blew a tire.

The man was wearing a helmet. He was taken by helicopter to a Lansing hospital.

"He suffered multiple abrasions and contusions and possibly a serious back injury," deputies said.

The interstate was closed for about 45 minutes while crews cleaned up the scene and waited for the chopper to land.
