Ride-sharing giant Uber is testing a new kind of app.
A new on-demand labor service called "Uber works" in Chicago.
Similar to a temp agency, Uber works would offer on-demand staffing for events and corporate functions.
That's according to a person familiar with the pilot program.
This would expand the ride-hailing giant beyond the transportation realm for the first time.
Uber made its name as a ride-based platform but expanded in recent years to offer food delivery and integrate other forms of transportation.
