Officials are urging residents to "shake your mailbox" before the snow starts to fall this winter.
Governor Snyder declared days in October in recent years as "shake your mailbox day" in an effort to make sure your mailbox is stable enough to withstand the force of snow coming off a plow at 35mph.
Officials with the road commission say mailboxes can be a serious hazard along a road and a liability and risk for homeowners.
If your mailbox is not firmly in the ground, residents are encouraged to stabilize or replace it before the snow starts to fall.
