The "Joker" comes to theaters on Oct. 4 and many are warning those planning to see the movie.

The dark themes of the film have worried police and military nationwide, afraid that it may inspire real-world attacks. They fear it may spark violence similar to the Aurora theater shooting during a screening of the "Dark Knight" in July of 2012. James Holmes killed 12 people and injured 70 during that shooting.

Las Vegas police say that they plan to increase patrols and are encouraging the public to report any suspicious activity.

The LVMPD is aware of the public’s concern regarding this weekend’s release of the Joker movie. Public safety is our top priority and additional resources will be available to respond to local theaters in the event a police response is necessary. In addition, LVMPD patrol officers may be seen in or around theaters conducting extra patrol. All citizens are encouraged to report any suspicious activity by calling 702 828-7777 or 311/911 or for immediate police assistance.

Locals coming out to see The Joker on Thursday night at the Palms’ Brenden Theater say they were happy to see the extra police presence.

“We’re a big tourist town and we just want to make it safe so everyone does feel safe,” says Dawn Nobile.

“This timing is very sensitive so I think a lot of people in Vegas will feel secure knowing there’s more security.”
