Fire crews were at the scene of an apartment complex fire early this morning on Schoolcraft east of Telegraph on Detroit's west side.

Several children had to be tossed out of windows after the fire started.

"There was no way they were going to be able to walk out their front door," said Lloyd who escaped the fire.

Two parents at the scene say they were forced to jump out of windows with their kids due to the flames.

"I went to the front door... nothing but black smoke hit me. They had my kids jump out the window, then I jumped out the window. They just helped us," said Jasmine.

She says if her daughter had not woken her up, they may be dead because they did not have a working smoke detector inside their unit.

No injuries were reported.

One unit was destroyed and a couple of other apartments were also damaged.
