The man convicted of killing an Armada teen while she was walking her dog on a popular trail in 2014 will be back in court.

James VanCallis is expected to be sentenced today for killing 14-year-old April Millsap.

That murder charge comes with a mandatory life sentence without parole.

Today, April's family will also have a chance to speak to VanCallis for the first time and he will have an opportunity to address the court.

Prosecutors say VanCallis came across April on the Macomb Orchard Trail in July of 2014 and when she refused his advances, he attacked her. They say he beat her to death with his motorcycle helmet.

His cell phone data showed he was in the area at the time of the murder, but there was no DNA evidence linking him directly to the scene.
