The new homeowners recently closed on the home. When they saw the skull in the home's large fire pit, they immediately contacted police.
A Michigan State Police crime lab is on the scene, according to Trenton Police Chief Steve Voss.
Right now, investigators say the remains of only one person have been found, and they hope no others are found as the investigation continues. The new homeowners are cooperating with the investigation.
