The longest total lunar eclipse of the century is happening tonight, but Michiganders, or anyone in North America, for that matter, won't be able to see it.
The total eclipse will occur on the other side of Earth and begin around 2:24 p.m. our time Friday. Totality will end around 4:22 p.m.
However, you will be able to watch it all live online through multiple websites:
- ABC News is launching a live stream of the eclipse at 3:30 p.m.
- Slooh, which airs live views of space, will broadcast the entire eclipse on its YouTubechannel, beginning at 1 p.m.
- The Virtual Telescope Project is hosting "The Night of the Red Moon and the Red Planet" livestream beginning at 2:30 p.m.
- The Weather Channel will host a livestream on its app at 4 p.m. in case you can't watch on a computer.
While we'll, unfortunately, have to resort to watching this year's eclipse online, we'll have great seats for the next one. It'll take place on Sunday, January 20, 2019.
