The Lyon Township Fire Department is sharing information on how to keep fire hydrants accessible during the wintertime.
There should be a "clear-away zone" of three feet on either side of the hydrant and snow and ice should be removed.
Additionally, a path should be cleared from the hydrant to the street.
If there is a fire hydrant near your house, the fire department advises you to follow these steps.
