You can soon fish for free in Michigan, but only for a couple of days.  The Department of Natural Resources has designated Saturday and Sunday a free fishing weekend.

You won't need a license those days, but you will have to follow other fishing regulations. The state offers the free fishing weekend every year to promote one of Michigan's favorite pastimes.

There are several events around the state associated with the free fishing weekend.

The list includes: a fishing festival at the Bay City State Recreation Area; the annual Wakefield Volunteer Fire Department Ice Fishing Contest in Gogebic County; and Wild about Winter Activity Day in Van Buren County.
