Todd Bridges, who started as a child actor on the sitcom "Diff'rent Strokes," will be speaking at a luncheon in Detroit about mental illness and addiction on May 22.

The event is being put on by Team Cares, Inc., a nonproift organization and extension of Team Wellness Center, which treats more than 13,000 metro Detroiters for mental illness, according to a press release.

Bridges will speak about overcoming childhood trauma and addiction. He came into fame starring in the 1980s sitcom as Willis on "Diff'rent Strokes." Bridges will also discuss his recovery from sexual abuse.

“Mr. Bridges’ struggles reflect the struggles of many of the people that we serve.” says Pamela Jastrabek, president and CEO of Team Wellness Center. “We chose him to be the speaker for this year’s luncheon because his story is both courageous and inspiring.”

Tickets for the luncheon are $50. Sponsorships are also available. All proceeds from the event will go toward providing heath care treatment to men, women and children in need. The event will take place at the Roostertail, 100 Marquette Dr.
