Flint whistleblowers, Donald Trump among those on shorlist for TIME's Person of the Year

The whistleblowers for the Flint Water and President-elect Donald Trump are among the people on the shortlist for TIME's Person of the Year award.

Those involved in the Flint whistleblower include Dr. Mona Hanna-Attisha, local residents and Virginia Tech professor Marc Edwards.

In all, there are 11 finalists which were revealed Monday morning on The Today Show.

Those people include:

Simone Biles

TIME says the 19-year-old gymnast is on the list after earning four gold medals and one bronze, leading the "Final Five" in Rio.

Hillary Clinton

According to TIME, Clinton is a finalist after becoming the first woman to receive the U.S. Presidential nomination for a major political party.

CRISPR Scientists

TIME says, "These scientists have developed a groundbreaking new technology that can edit DNA, a technique that has the potential to transform science and the human experience."

Recep Tayyip Erdo?an

According to TIME, the Turkish president is on the list for tightening control over the country following a failed military coup in July.

Nigel Farage

Farage is the head of the U.K. Independence Party and is one of the people responsible for the BREXIT campaign.

The Flint Whistleblowers

Local residents, Dr. Mona Hanna-Attisha and Virginia Tech Professor Marc Edwards "blew the whistle on the lead-poisoned water" in the city, according to TIME.

Beyoncé Knowles

Beyoncé is on the list, according to TIME, after a world tour, her album "Lemonade" and using her platform to speak out about social issues.

Narenda Modi

Modi is the Indian Prime Minister, and according to TIME, "guided his country into position as the 'emerging-market world's most positive story.'"

Vladimir Putin

"The Russian president made headlines this year with his country’s intervention in Syria and evidence showing that Russian operatives were responsible for the hack of Democratic National Committee servers," TIME said.

Donald Trump

Trump in on the list after "campaigning as an anti-establishment, populist candidate," and being elected as the 45th President of the United States.

Mark Zuckerberg

The Facebook CEO is a finalist, according to TIME, as the company surpassed 1 billion mobile daily users.

TIME will unveil its 2016 Person of the Year on Wednesday morning at TIME.com and on The Today Show.
