Fans are blasting Detroit rapper Eminem after he used gunshot-like sound effects during his performance at Bonnaroo over the weekend.

VOTE NOW: Do you think the sound effects used in Eminem's performance crossed the line?

During his performance of "Kill You", many fans took cover and screamed as the sound effects went off.

The criticism comes in wake of the shooting at the Route 91 Harvest Festival in Las Vegas last year that left dozens of people dead.

A spokesperson for Eminem told Billboard, "contrary to inaccurate reports, Eminem does not use gunshot sound effects during his live show. The effect used by Eminem in his set at Bonnaroo was a pyrotechnic concussion which creates a loud boom. He has used this effect - as have hundreds of other artists - in his live show for over 10 years, including previous U.S. festival dates, without complaint."
