The Michigan Lottery has played a big role in funding education in our state, which is why it has teamed up with MSU Men's Basketball Coach, Tom Izzo, and FOX 47 News to recognize excellent educators state-wide.
Izzo recently dropped in to present Lansing Waverly High School teacher Daniel Carr with the Michigan Lottery Educator of the Year award. Each year the Michigan Lottery selects one teacher from a pool of educators that shows true caring, dedication, and drive to their students and communities.
Daniel is a Spanish teacher at Waverly High School, and is this year’s grand prize winner.
He was recognized with a $10,000 check from the Michigan Lottery
"I’m the product of a lot of people, several colleagues of mine have really had a huge impact on my life, some of them are here right now,” Daniel said. "To me it’s something that should be shared among all those people, not just myself. I’d really like to use the money to help further education in parts of the world where people aren’t as privileged and don’t have as much opportunity to learn."
The Excellence in Education award is sponsored by the Michigan Lottery, proud to provide nearly 19 billion dollars to support public education over the past 40 years.
