LANSING, Mich. — The Michigan Lottery has played a big role in funding education in our state, which is why it has teamed up with FOX 47 News to recognize excellent educators state-wide.

Nick Bierman, a teacher at Swartz Creek High School in Swartz Creek is this week's Michigan Lottery Excellence in Education award winner. In his nomination video Jacob Winter says, "Your what it means to be excellent in education. Every single day you have positive interactions with us students."

Nick commented, "It's just really overwhelming in many ways it's not something that you expect to hear as a teacher we just kind of go about our business and do our things on a daily basis and maybe we are making impact on a bigger level than we sometimes think."

Nick was recognized with a $1,500 check from the Michigan Lottery and his school will receive a $500 grant!

The Excellence in Education award is sponsored by the Michigan Lottery, proud to provide more than $23 billion to support public education since 1972!
